Uninstall Forefront Protection 2010 For Exchange Server: A Comprehensive Tutorial

istirasnontburo

After doing several installations of Server 2012 on Windows 2008 and Windows 2008 R2 servers I became convinced that I should migrate the entire internal serverpark to 2012. I ran into several issues (which I will post later on) but most annoyingly of all is ForeFront 2010 on the servers.

Earlier this year Microsoft announced that the on-premises Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange (FPE) was being discontinued (see Important Changes to Forefront Product Roadmaps). This created a void in Microsoft's email hygiene offering to on-premises installations. To make up for this, Microsoft beefed up the built-in email hygiene with malware protection.

Another key fact shaping the current Exchange 2013 email hygiene landscape is the lack of an Exchange 2013 Edge server role. Rumour has it that Edge will be include in Service Pack 1, but at the moment the best option is that of running the Exchange 2010 Edge together with Exchange 2013.

Microsoft Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange Server (FPE) provides fast and effective protection against malware and spam by including multiple scanning engines from industry-leading security partners in a single solution. FPE provides customers with an easy-to-use administration console that includes customizable configuration settings, filtering options, monitoring features and reports, antispam protection, and integration with the Forefront Online Protection for Exchange (FOPE) product. If you have installed FPE on multiple Exchange servers, such as in an enterprise, you can manage them with the Microsoft Forefront Protection Server Management Console (FPSMC). Additionally, you can use Windows PowerShell, a command-line shell and task-based scripting technology that enables the automation of system administration tasks, to administer FPE.

In exchange 2010 the quotas can be either set for the entire ExchangeDB, or per mailbox.Atention ! If you set a quota on the DB, and then you set a quota on the mailbox, the mailbox setting will override the DB setting.

This article describes an anti-malware platform update package for both Microsoft System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection Service Pack 1 (SP1) clients and Microsoft Forefront Endpoint Protection 2010 clients. These packages update Endpoint Protection client services, drivers, and user interface components.Microsoft regularly releases anti-malware platform updates to guarantee consistency in protection, performance, robustness, and usability in a malware landscape that is constantly changing. This update package is dated August 2013.Note This update applies only to Endpoint Protection clients that are integrated with Microsoft System Center 2012 Configuration Manager or Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007. A best practice for Exchange 2010 mailbox servers is to store the database and transaction log files on completely separate disks. This is to protect the server from data loss if one disk or the other has a failure.

I have exchange 2010 and mailboxes are backed up daily using backup assist. The Exchange server & AD reside on Virtual machine. The exchange drive is now left with 10 GB space and I wanted to clear few logs. Noticed that the public folder database has got 72 GB of data and the logs are stored from 2010. The backed up mailboxes (.pst) are maintained for for 2 years and then backup assist deletes the mailboxes.

Hi Please can you help me? I have an Exchange 2010 sp1 server on Windows Server r2. The backs up are configured correctly but the Transactiion log just wont clear. the logs are now at 125 and 175 on two mailstores.

Hi Prajwal, I have created the SCEP ADR, It will work, bit some server definition not update. I everytime uninstall SCEP and install. then only definition got update. Could you please advice on this issue

Comprehensive protection. Malware requires a solution that extends "from your network edge to the server applications in your environment, and at the client." Josue emphasized, "A key portion of our protection is backing our product up with a leading security-response organization."
